What does the Tenant Fee Ban mean to Landlords?


As of 1st June 2019 the Tenant Fee Bill will become law.


Does the tenant fee ban apply to Landlords?

Absolutely


So what does that mean for Landlords? Basically they will not be able to charge tenants for anything except Rent, Security deposit and Holding deposit!


Can I charge a fee for referencing and credit checks?

No


Can I charge for inventories?

No


Can I charge a pet deposit?

No but you can charge higher rent if a tenant has a pet


Banned Fees

• Credit checks

• Inventories

• Referencing

• Professional cleaning

• Tenancy renewal

• Having the property de-flead as a condition of allowing pets in the property

• Admin charges

• Requirements to have specific insurance providers

• Gardening services


Landlords who do not adhere to the policy could be liable for a fine of up to £5000!
